The Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association Pre-Conference and Annual Conference are well underway. We have excellent attendance at our Pre-Conference Workshops today. We are pleased to announce that George Sheldon, newly appointed Interim Secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families will address the Conference on Wednesday, August 20th at 3:30 p.m.

Please don’t miss this opportunity to hear directly from Secretary Sheldon about his plans for substance abuse service delivery and the Department.

Tropical Storm FayTROPICAL STORM FAY
Monday 3:45 pm UPDATE
The Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association is going forward with the Pre-Conference and 32nd Annual Conference. The most recent forecast indicates the storm should be past Orlando late Tuesday evening. If you have to ride out a little rain, what better place to do it than the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress!

The pre-conference will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday and we will start the Conference at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20 to allow participants to drive to Orlando early Wednesday morning. FADAA and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress have considered all contingencies and feel confident that the Conference can go forward as planned. If you need to adjust your travel plans, the Hyatt has agreed to make the adjustment. Call the Hyatt at (407) 239-1234 and ask for the front desk.

Proceeding with the Conference has been a difficult decision in light of the weather this week. Please make every effort to support FADAA by participating in our Annual Conference. We look forward to seeing you here . . . rain or shine!

Individuals who are unable to attend should email FADAA at fadaa@fadaa.org and provide the following information: Your Name, Agency, Your County and circumstances why you are enable to attend (e.g., school closures, need to work due weather, etc.). We need that information for insurance purposes, and your cooperation is very much appreciated.

 Free Clinical Consultation Project
Each year, the Florida Clinical Consultation for Treatment Improvement Project reviews eight substance abuse treatment programs throughout the state. Each participating program is given – at no cost - the opportunity to have the “fresh eye” of trained peer consultants help them move to the next level of service for their clients. If your program is currently contracted with DCF for Substance Abuse services you may be eligible to participate. Read more.

 Stop Meth in Florida
On the Stop Meth in Florida Web site, the Florida Office of Drug Control offers a Meth Prevention Toolkit. The toolkit provides a comprehensive approach to addressing methamphetamine abuse with a focus on empowering communities to recognize this abuse and take action.
